Hutto, TX (PRWEB) October 19, 2011

Fahrenheit Nutrition CEO William Mellors spoke Wednesday about rising health costs, the importance of proactive healthcare, and the release of Fahrenheits latest product release, FIT Multi-Vitamins, a high-end formulation priced at or lower than mid- to low-end brands currently available in the market.

Mellors remarked, “Healthcare costs are rising disproportionately in this sinking economy, and private insurance companies are bailing on their customers, making doctor and hospital visits a real financial hardship for most American families. Never before has it been more important for men and women to be proactive with their health. This means proper nutrition, daily exercise, and without question – a consistent regime of high-quality, high potency vitamins.”

Already a leader in performance-enhancing nutritional supplements, Fahrenheit Nutrition has strengthened its position by introducing the FIT brand, with custom formulas for men and for women. In todays announcement, Mellors continued, We have been meticulous in our sports nutrition formulations, providing our athletes with a perfect complement of high-end performance and recovery supplements. We are now excited to enter the mainstream market place, bringing that same level of meticulous attention to thorough supplement formulations to men and women everywhere.

Mellors does acknowledge that there are comparable formulas in the high-end supplement market, but contends none are available at the affordable price-points being set by Fahrenheit.

Both formulas, Fit Men and Fit Women, are optimized to deliver a potent dose of essential vitamins, minerals, carotenoids, and phytonutrients for optimum health and performance. Explains Mellors, By comparison, this is where the competition drops-off and Fahrenheit steps-in, to insure our athletes and active clientele are covered. We have engineered both formulas to contain branch chain amino acids, to promote healing of injured and aging tissues, speed recovery from exercise and protect against catabolism (muscle tissue breakdown). *

Furthermore, Fit Women is optimized with a potent combination of Resveratrol

End Hunger Connecticut! Spearheads Formation of Advisory Board on Nutrition for Older Adults (amazon) (shopzilla)

Hartford, CT (PRWEB) September 03, 2013

End Hunger Connecticut!, a statewide anti-hunger and food security organization, with headquarters in Hartford, is pleased to announce the formation of an Advisory Board on Nutrition for Older Adults. The Board, which includes representatives from anti-hunger and food security organizations, senior advocacy groups, service providers and senior wellness advocates, will serve as a catalyst for increasing seniors access to healthy foods among other vital services.

Many older adults struggle to get the nutrition they need, Lucy Nolan, Executive Director, End Hunger Connecticut!, said. When we look at senior nutrition, there are many barriers to accessing programs, including transportation, application processes and limited awareness. As a group, we are committed to developing strategies for overcoming these barriers and giving voice to this underserved population through advocacy efforts to increase program access and funding.

The Food Research and Action Center (FRAC) reports only 35% of eligible seniors participate in the supplemental nutrition assistance program (SNAP), citing lack of awareness about the program and how to apply as contributing factors. Further research conducted by the University of Kentucky Center for Poverty Research reports seniors experiencing food insecurity are significantly more likely to have lower intakes of calories and major nutrients, to be in poor or fair health, and to have limitations in activities of daily living. The U.S. Census Bureau reports that 14.8% of Connecticuts population is over 65 years of age (2012).

End Hunger Connecticut!s Advisory Board on Nutrition for Older Adults will focus its efforts on senior nutrition in five key areas improving access to and availability of nutritious foods; food delivery; preventative health care and treatment as it pertains to nutrition; food preparation; and, opportunities to engage volunteers in improving all areas. Organizations represented on the Board, include: AARP Connecticut; At Home in Greenwich; Community Health Center Association of Connecticut; Connecticut Food Bank; Connecticut State Health Insurance Assistance Program; CT Department of Social Services; End Hunger Connecticut!; Southwestern Connecticut Agency on Aging; the Center for Public Health and Health Policy, University of Connecticut Health Center; and, Western Connecticut Area Agency on Aging.

By establishing this Board we hope to foster deeper collaborations between food security and senior service organizations. This will lay the foundation for increased advocacy for and communication of the nutrition assistance programs that are vital to seniors. We are also committed to identifying additional opportunities for community and government to collaborate to improve availability of and access to senior nutrition programs, Nolan said.

Eastside Woman Launches Redefine Positive Campaign to Create New HIV/AIDS Video Resources for Classrooms in Washington State (amazon) (shopzilla)

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) September 03, 2013

Jodie Howerton of Woodinville, Washington, mother of an HIV positive son, has begun a campaign to ensure that supplemental HIV/AIDS video materials utilized in public schools are up to date. She is partnering with Washington States Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), Seattle Childrens Hospital Foundation, and the documentary film company, North 40 Productions, to create four 12 to 15-minute educational videos to help students in grades 5-12 understand HIV in a real life context. The videos will be available free of charge to all school districts in Washington State and will eventually be available to other school districts across the nation.

In 2010, after having two biological children, Jodie and her husband Mike decided to adopt an HIV positive son from South Africa. Thousands of children in Africa contract HIV/AIDS from their mothers during childbirth every year, but access to beneficial anti-retroviral drugs is limited and HIV/AIDS remains a death sentence for many of these children. In the US, where HIV/ AIDS drugs are more readily available, the disease is now considered a chronic, but manageable illness, and one that can be lived with indefinitely.

Two years ago, when Jodies daughter reached 5th grade in their neighborhood public school, parents were given the opportunity to review the HIV/AIDS video materials before they were shown to the students. I was surprised and concerned by how outdated the video materials were. The videos had been produced in the 1980s, were fear-based, and contained inaccurate information. HIV/AIDS has changed drastically since then. I could not stand by and let my children and all students in my community not have access to more up to date, relevant educational videos about HIV and AIDS, says Howerton. After voicing her concerns to her daughters teacher, to the school principal, and to the Health Coordinator at Northshore School District, she collaborated with the district to identify new video resources for classroom use. After nearly a year of searching, neither Sandra Tracy, Health and Nursing Supervisor at Northshore School District, nor Howerton, found engaging materials in the marketplace that met their high standards. So, Howerton decided to create a new set of educational video resources.

Howerton approached OSPI with the idea of creating these new HIV/AIDS video materials. OSPI is charged with helping districts provide accurate and comprehensive HIV and Sexual Health Education that is in compliance with state guidelines and laws. OSPI has offered to help Jodie on her quest. We want our students to have the most up to date information, but budgets are limited at both the state and local level to purchase new materials. We are very excited to partner with Jodie and Seattle Childrens to make this happen, said Suzanne Hidde, Program Supervisor of HIV/AIDS and Sexual Health at OSPI.

Jodie also approached Seattle Childrens Hospitals Dr. Ann Melvin, a Pediatric Infectious Disease Specialist, about the project. Dr. Melvin in turn connected Jodie to Seattle Childrens Hospital Foundation, the fundraising arm of Seattle Childrens Hospital. The Foundation has offered to assist with fundraising for the project. Once funds have been raised, production of the four videos will begin, with input from a panel of experts that include physicians, educators, health workers, parents, and individuals living with HIV. The intent is to use an age appropriate, documentary format to tell the story of individuals who live with HIV and AIDS. We want to engage audiences by telling real stories about how people successfully deal with this chronic disease. The videos will contain accurate medical and social information, scientific information about transmission and prevention, and will also address the emotional and social aspects of HIV and AIDS. Ultimately, we hope the videos will help decrease the devastating stigma and discrimination associated with the disease, says Howerton.

With the help of Seattle Childrens Hospital Foundation, the Redefine Positive campaign has already raised $ 23,000 of the $ 150,000 project budget through grants and private donations. Jodie has turned to the crowd-funding site, Indiegogo, to generate additional funds to propel the project forward. (http://indiegogo.com) Indiegogo is designed to help projects find funding across large audiences. The Indiegogo campaign will finish at the end of September.

Kings College London Research Has Found an Association Between Diet and Depression / Anxiety in Elderly, Says Nutri-Med Logic Corp. (amazon) (shopzilla)

Miami, Florida (PRWEB) November 29, 2011

Nutri-Med Logic Corp: This newly published study by King’s College London establishes a more conclusive role for Essential Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids in Depression and Anxiety Disorders, from young to old.

The study by the Kings College London states Plasma linoleic acid (Omega-6) levels were found to have a negative linear relationship with depressive symptoms. (Negative association denotes factors that lead to various forms of mental disorder.)

The study, which included 130 participants, aged 60 to 86 years of age, from outpatient psychiatric services of four hospitals, concluded that the higher levels of Omega-6 are associated with higher residual Depression and Anxiety.

The results of another recent study by National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) suggested that a daily diet of Omega3 fatty acids should be incorporated for the young and healthy individuals, since it has reduced their symptoms of anxiety.

According to the NCCAM study, a 12 week, double-blind study that included 68 healthy young medical students (38 men, 30 women), not only suggested that omega3 fatty acids reduced the symptoms of Anxiety, and consistent with the previous studies of NCCAM, Omega-3 diet was suggested for reducing depressive symptoms in “clinically” depressed young subjects.

Moreover, another recent study by National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism of National Institutes of Health and Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHA) recommended that 2 grams of omega-3 fatty acids per day to reduce depression and anxiety scores among active service members with recurrent self-harm tendency.

Omega-3 and Omega-6 are classified as Essential Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids, both of which are only obtained through diet and they form an important part of all cellular membranes. Human body is incapable of producing either Omega-3 or Omega-6 and thus depends on the diet for their supply.

Omega-6 is found in most food but Omega-3 can only be attained from leafy green vegetables and cold-water fishes. Due to its scarcity in the diet, the deficiency of Omega-3 is substituted with readily available Omega-6, which explains the association between the higher residual depression / anxiety and the higher levels of Omega-6, as suggested by the King’s College study.

The higher levels of Omega-6 can only be reduced through higher dietary intake of Omega-3.

Higher intake of Omega-3, not only would reduce the high levels of Omega-6, determined to be the key focus of elderly depression and anxiety in the Kings College London study, but consistent with the various recent studies of NIH, higher intake of Omega-3 reduces the anxiety symptoms for the younger population.

In conclusion, Nutri-Med Logic Corp (http://www.nutrimedlogic.com) agrees with the study published by The Kings College London but adds that higher levels of Omega-6 can only denote deficiency of Omega-3 in the diet. Nutri-Med Logic Corp, also, adds, that higher intake of Omega-3 not only would reduce the higher levels of Omega-6, beneficial for the elderly with Depression and Anxiety, but also beneficial for the young suffering from Anxiety Disorder due to stress.

Nutri-Med Logic Corp is a producer of dietary supplements, including a Concentrated and Balanced Omega-3 as well as an Ideal Anti-oxidant.

Nutri-Med Logic’s products are Formulated Based on Nutritional Logic, made from the highest quality raw materials that are manufactured in pharmaceutical facilities, encapsulated in pharmaceutical facilities and packaged in pharmaceutical facilities.

It must be noted that the studies, sources or statements, above and below, have not been evaluated by The FDA and, thus, one should not relate the cause of any diseases, stated herein, to lack of Omega-3 dietary supplementation; nor equate its supplementation to prevention, treatment or cure.

Building Awareness of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome During PCOS Awareness Month (amazon) (shopzilla)

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) September 19, 2013

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder that affects as many as 5 million women in the United States. Estimated to affect one in 10 women of childbearing age, a PCOS diagnosis is also strongly linked to obesity and diabetes, and is one of the leading causes of infertility.

PCOS is defined as the presence of cysts on the ovaries combined with the absence of ovulation. The cysts can disturb hormone cycles, causing ovulation problems and resulting in female infertility. Statistical data shows that Hispanic and Latina women appear to have a higher risk of being diagnosed with PCOS.

While the cause of PCOS is unknown, several factors place women at risk. Diagnoses such as sleep apnea, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and issues with insulin resistance, metabolism and glucose tolerance can increase the likelihood of a PCOS diagnosis. Nearly all of these factors can be reduced or eliminated by maintaining a healthy weight and body mass index. Morbid obesity is defined as a BMI of 40 or greater, while obesity is defined as a BMI over 30.

Dr. Laurence Jacobs of Fertility Centers of Illinois has treated patients with PCOS, and has helped many women lessen disorder symptoms and conceive. FCI also offers a reduced price PCOS screening program.

By changing lifestyle habits and making small changes to diet and exercise, women with polycystic ovarian syndrome can not only feel better, they can improve chances of conception by 10 percent, explains Dr. Jacobs.

Frequently misdiagnosed or mistaken for other medical problems, PCOS can begin in the teen years with symptoms progressing gradually. Common symptoms of PCOS include irregular or no menstrual periods, acne, obesity/weight gain/inability to lose weight, breathing problems while sleeping, depression, oily skin, infertility, skin discolorations, high cholesterol levels, elevated blood pressure, excess or abnormal hair growth and distribution, pain in the lower abdomen and pelvis, multiple ovarian cysts, and skin tags. Some women have only a few symptoms, while others have several.

Women have many options to help reduce and lessen the symptoms of PCOS. Making these healthy changes can boost fertility and reduce the prevalence of additional medical problems. As each woman is different, some recommended treatments may work for some and not others.

Physical activity and weight loss can greatly reduce several symptoms of PCOS. As little as a 5-10 percent weight loss has been shown to help restore ovulation, lower cholesterol levels and reduce diabetes risk, acne, hair growth and depression.

Dietary changes and herbal supplements can also greatly reduce symptoms and aid in weight loss. Speak with a nutritionist with experience in treating women with PCOS to develop a diet tailored to your needs.

Lastly, some find that medication such as oral contraceptives, insulin-sensitizing agents and anti-androgens can also help with PCOS symptoms. For those looking to have a family, making healthy changes and receiving help from a reproductive endocrinologist with expertise in the latest treatments can greatly improve the chances of conception.

Additionally, glutathione decreases by age and lack of glutathione shifts the bodys homeostasis toward oxidative stress, which according to this study, oxidative stress, may lead to the pathogenesis of diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, metabolic syndrome, aging and cancer.

Proper nutrients play an important role in enhancing or moderating the factors that shift the bodys homeostasis.

In 2004, a panel of U.S. and Canadian scientists recalculated the amounts of vitamins and minerals, based age and sex, and declared 30 vitamins and minerals as the raw materials that body requires daily but it cannot make in sufficient amounts: Essential Nutrients.

It is a fact that lack of these 30 essential nutrients plays an important part in the homeostasis of the body and some of those present important anti-oxidant properties. However, none of these 30 essential nutrients would increase the levels of glutathione, the most potent endogenous anti-oxidant, which recycles vitamin C and E, as well as re-energizing Co-Enzyme Q-10, an important anti-oxidant for the heart.

In 1996, Professor Lester Packer a senior anti-oxidant researcher and scientist at the University of California (Berkley) discovered that dietary supplementation of R-Alpha Lipoic Acid (also known as R-Lipoic Acid), increased the production, as well as the cellular concentration of glutathione. R-Alpha Lipoic, in its reduced form, is made by the human body, as a vital co-enzyme in the metabolism of glucose.

Stress and inflammation, also, play an equal but crucial role in shifting the bodys homeostasis and are implicated in diseases, ranging from degenerative, neurodegenerative, chronic, autoimmune to opportunistic and infectious diseases.

A cursory search of PubMed records reveals at least 200,000 related studies in the role of stress or inflammation and diseases, as well as, at least 2,100 related studies of Omega-3 fatty acids in inflammation and stress.

The primary mechanism for the resolution of the inflammation starts from the cellular membrane through the derivatives of the fatty acids of Omega-3. The membrane ratio of Omeg-3 dictates the intensity and the duration of inflammatory responses.

Diets lacking Omega-3 tilt the balance to the pro-inflammatory agents, thus throwing the body out of its homeostasis, as well.

The role of stress and homeostasis has been well studied and established. More importantly, the role of Omega-3 in moderating stress, specifically in the cases of depression and anxiety, has been even suggested by The National Institutes of Health.

The human body needs Omega-3 but cannot produce it. In the scientific community, Omega-3 is referred to as Essential Fatty Acids.

In conclusion, Nutri-Med Logic Corp agrees with this recent study and the consequences of a redox imbalance but adds that stress and inflammation, also, play a crucial role in the homeostasis of the human body. Nutri-Med Logic Corp adds that the foregoing clearly establishes the need for inclusion of an anti-oxidant and an anti-inflammatory nutrient in the daily diet.
