Kings College London Research Has Found an Association Between Diet and Depression / Anxiety in Elderly, Says Nutri-Med Logic Corp. (amazon) (shopzilla)

Miami, Florida (PRWEB) November 29, 2011

Nutri-Med Logic Corp: This newly published study by King’s College London establishes a more conclusive role for Essential Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids in Depression and Anxiety Disorders, from young to old.

The study by the Kings College London states Plasma linoleic acid (Omega-6) levels were found to have a negative linear relationship with depressive symptoms. (Negative association denotes factors that lead to various forms of mental disorder.)

The study, which included 130 participants, aged 60 to 86 years of age, from outpatient psychiatric services of four hospitals, concluded that the higher levels of Omega-6 are associated with higher residual Depression and Anxiety.

The results of another recent study by National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) suggested that a daily diet of Omega3 fatty acids should be incorporated for the young and healthy individuals, since it has reduced their symptoms of anxiety.

According to the NCCAM study, a 12 week, double-blind study that included 68 healthy young medical students (38 men, 30 women), not only suggested that omega3 fatty acids reduced the symptoms of Anxiety, and consistent with the previous studies of NCCAM, Omega-3 diet was suggested for reducing depressive symptoms in “clinically” depressed young subjects.

Moreover, another recent study by National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism of National Institutes of Health and Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHA) recommended that 2 grams of omega-3 fatty acids per day to reduce depression and anxiety scores among active service members with recurrent self-harm tendency.

Omega-3 and Omega-6 are classified as Essential Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids, both of which are only obtained through diet and they form an important part of all cellular membranes. Human body is incapable of producing either Omega-3 or Omega-6 and thus depends on the diet for their supply.

Omega-6 is found in most food but Omega-3 can only be attained from leafy green vegetables and cold-water fishes. Due to its scarcity in the diet, the deficiency of Omega-3 is substituted with readily available Omega-6, which explains the association between the higher residual depression / anxiety and the higher levels of Omega-6, as suggested by the King’s College study.

The higher levels of Omega-6 can only be reduced through higher dietary intake of Omega-3.

Higher intake of Omega-3, not only would reduce the high levels of Omega-6, determined to be the key focus of elderly depression and anxiety in the Kings College London study, but consistent with the various recent studies of NIH, higher intake of Omega-3 reduces the anxiety symptoms for the younger population.

In conclusion, Nutri-Med Logic Corp (http://www.nutrimedlogic.com) agrees with the study published by The Kings College London but adds that higher levels of Omega-6 can only denote deficiency of Omega-3 in the diet. Nutri-Med Logic Corp, also, adds, that higher intake of Omega-3 not only would reduce the higher levels of Omega-6, beneficial for the elderly with Depression and Anxiety, but also beneficial for the young suffering from Anxiety Disorder due to stress.

Studies in Anxiety and Depression Point to Age-Associated Benefits of Omega-3 (amazon) (shopzilla)

Miami, Florida (PRWEB) March 20, 2012

A newly published study by the School of Medicine, Adelaide University, Adelaide, Australia, suggests inflammatory markers, more specifically, the marker PAI-1 is associated with remitted depression but not with the symptom of anxiety in the older population. Nutri-Med Logic Corp adds that PAI-1 is also an indicator of mental stress, which is the precursor to anxiety in the younger population, as well as hypertension and coronary artery disease in the older population.

As to PAI-1 and cardiovascular risk, DR. John Laragh, a Professor of Medicine in Cardiothoracic Surgery and Director of the Cardiovascular Center at The New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical Center, more than three decades ago discovered the relationship between stress system and malignant hypertension, in which the bodys ability to dissolve clots is inhibited by PAI-1.

Later in time, studies by Veterans Administration Medical Center, Gainesville, concluded that supplementation of Omega-3, in three weeks, resulted in a decrease of PAI-1 levels by 21 +/- 5% and such reduction in PAI-1 also correlated with a reduction in blood triglycerides (American Heart Journal. 1988 Nov; 116(5 Pt 1):1201-6.)

As to PAI-1 and mental stress, overwhelming number of studies have shown a strong correlation between higher levels of stress and increased levels of PAI-1. In particular, blood samples taken before and after a battery of psychological questionnaires, to create mental stress, revealed a strong relationship between mental stress and PAI-1, in which there was a decrease in certain tissue molecules that become inactivated due to an increase in PAI-1 (A decrease in tPA-PAI-1 complex). Eur J Appl Physiol. 2000 Nov;83(4 -5):344-8.

The dietary intervention of Omega-3 in reducing stress has been well studied, most notably in a recent study by National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism of National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHA), which has sought to incorporate Omega-3 into the diet of the U.S. military, especially those in deployment situation.

Additionally, The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) of The National Institutes of Health (NIH) also concluded, in a recent report, that an anti-inflammatory diet consisting of Omega-3 reduced the symptoms of Anxiety in the young and healthy subjects, not yet diagnosed with the disorder.

In conclusion, Nutri-Med Logic Corp states that the findings of overwhelming number of studies relating to PAI-1, mental stress, anxiety and hypertension highlight the importance of Omega-3 dietary intervention, from young to old. Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids not only offer substantial benefits for the cardiovascular health of the older population but also confer beneficial or protective properties for reducing anxiety in young adults, even those not yet diagnosed with the disorder.

The diverse benefits of Omega-3 in cardiovascular or nervous system arises from two important polyunsaturated fatty acids: EPA Omega-3 fatty acids with broad anti-inflammatory application in cardiovascular system and DHA Omega-3 fatty acids with broad anti-inflammatory and protective application in the brain and nervous system. Low levels of DHA Omega-3 fatty acids have also been associated with higher levels of mental stress and aggression.

Health2Go Announces Research That DHEA Helps Depression (amazon) (shopzilla)

Houston, TX (PRWEB) May 23, 2013

Hormones drive many aspects of our lives: how we feel, energy levels, mood, muscle tone, fat build-up, sleep quality, sex drive, how productive we are, soft skin and more. Many signs we are getting older are driven by declining hormone levels as we age.

The naturally occurring pro-hormone DHEA, short for dehydroepiandrosterone, is the most abundant foundation or base from which the body makes hormones. Levels of DHEA made by the body gradually increase until about age 25, when we are in our prime; and then gradually decrease thereafter. After age 25 people make about 2% less DHEA each year.

So, by age 35 people make approximately 20% less DHEA than when they were 25; and by age 50 people make 50% less DHEA than when they were healthiest. DHEA is a base for estrogen, testosterone, and 50 other hormones. DHEA is also the base for sebum, or skin oil. Most DHEA metabolism actually occurs in the largest organ of the body, the dermis, the skin.

Research studies show that higher levels of DHEA makes people healthier, happier and more productive People have more energy, get more done and are in a better mood. Now research shows DHEA has significant anti-depressant effects.

Providing the body with adequate levels of the pro-hormone, DHEA, after age 35 makes sense.

There are many clinical research studies published and available on the web searching dehydroepiandrosterone depression showing DHEA helps fight depression. Many of these studies can be found on PubMed. One study performed at the National Institute of Mental Health in Rockville, Maryland concludes that We find DHEA to be an effective treatment for midlife-onset major and minor depression. * (see link to article)

Another study performed at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 2010 concludes that dehydroepiandrosterone has an important role in mood regulation and may have significant antidepressant effects.. * (see link to article)

When hormone levels are maintained, mental sharpness, focus and zest for life and enjoyment of it as well as memories of it can be maintained. Clinical research studies show that DHEA can help relieve depression that starts in middle age. In fact DHEA reduced depression symptoms in half of the study participants.

The reason DHEA has these anti-depressant effects is because DHEA is the most abundant pro-hormones in the body, a naturally occurring base building block for hormones. The right DHEA supplement provided the right way, as a cream absorbed in the skin, can fight off many declines in physical fitness, mood and mental sharpness as we get older. DHEA is clearly shown to help fight depression.

It turns out supplementing DHEA in the skin is the most natural and beneficial way to use DHEA because much DHEA metabolism actually occurs in the skin.

Oral DHEA supplements are eliminated by the liver, and what little DHEA does enter the bloodstream is DHEA sulfate not DHEA. DHEA-S is good, but not near as good or as beneficial as DHEA. DHEA is actually processed by the body in the skin. So DHEA absorbed through the skin is something the body can use applied where the body uses it.

That is why daily use of bioidentical DHEA cream Twist 25 is beneficial in many ways for people 35 and up; but DHEA must be used as a properly made cream to work. Twist 25
