New Study Suggests Metabolic Homeostasis As A Novel Opportunity In The Treatment of Diseases Such As Diabetes (amazon) (shopzilla)

Miami, Florida (PRWEB) January 21, 2012

Nutri-Med Logic Corp expands on a new study, published in the January Issue of the World Journal of Diabetes, which has targeted a gene (Nrf2), a central regulator of the cellular antioxidant defense, as a novel target for the treatment of Diabetes.

Nrf2 produces the most potent internal anti-oxidant, that being glutathione and while glutathione is found in food but studies have shown its concentration does not increase, significantly, through conventional food or its dietary supplementation.

Additionally, glutathione decreases by age and lack of glutathione shifts the bodys homeostasis toward oxidative stress, which according to this study, oxidative stress, may lead to the pathogenesis of diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, metabolic syndrome, aging and cancer.

Proper nutrients play an important role in enhancing or moderating the factors that shift the bodys homeostasis.

In 2004, a panel of U.S. and Canadian scientists recalculated the amounts of vitamins and minerals, based age and sex, and declared 30 vitamins and minerals as the raw materials that body requires daily but it cannot make in sufficient amounts: Essential Nutrients.

It is a fact that lack of these 30 essential nutrients plays an important part in the homeostasis of the body and some of those present important anti-oxidant properties. However, none of these 30 essential nutrients would increase the levels of glutathione, the most potent endogenous anti-oxidant, which recycles vitamin C and E, as well as re-energizing Co-Enzyme Q-10, an important anti-oxidant for the heart.

In 1996, Professor Lester Packer a senior anti-oxidant researcher and scientist at the University of California (Berkley) discovered that dietary supplementation of R-Alpha Lipoic Acid (also known as R-Lipoic Acid), increased the production, as well as the cellular concentration of glutathione. R-Alpha Lipoic, in its reduced form, is made by the human body, as a vital co-enzyme in the metabolism of glucose.

Stress and inflammation, also, play an equal but crucial role in shifting the bodys homeostasis and are implicated in diseases, ranging from degenerative, neurodegenerative, chronic, autoimmune to opportunistic and infectious diseases.

A cursory search of PubMed records reveals at least 200,000 related studies in the role of stress or inflammation and diseases, as well as, at least 2,100 related studies of Omega-3 fatty acids in inflammation and stress.

The primary mechanism for the resolution of the inflammation starts from the cellular membrane through the derivatives of the fatty acids of Omega-3. The membrane ratio of Omeg-3 dictates the intensity and the duration of inflammatory responses.

Diets lacking Omega-3 tilt the balance to the pro-inflammatory agents, thus throwing the body out of its homeostasis, as well.

The role of stress and homeostasis has been well studied and established. More importantly, the role of Omega-3 in moderating stress, specifically in the cases of depression and anxiety, has been even suggested by The National Institutes of Health.

The human body needs Omega-3 but cannot produce it. In the scientific community, Omega-3 is referred to as Essential Fatty Acids.

In conclusion, Nutri-Med Logic Corp agrees with this recent study and the consequences of a redox imbalance but adds that stress and inflammation, also, play a crucial role in the homeostasis of the human body. Nutri-Med Logic Corp adds that the foregoing clearly establishes the need for inclusion of an anti-oxidant and an anti-inflammatory nutrient in the daily diet.

Investigation in Metabolic Syndrome and Brain Points to Dietary Intervention of Omega-3 (amazon) (shopzilla)

Miami, Florida (PRWEB) April 11, 2012

A newly published study in the Journal of Physiology states that, in animal study, a diet high in fructose but low in Omega-3 fatty acids results in disturbance in the brain energy homeostasis, decrease in the level of a biological molecule (Sir2, responsible for cellular longevity) and a biological process (AMPK, associated with insulin resistance and diabetes). Nutri-Med Logic Corp, agreeing with this study, adds that while supplementation of Omega-3 improves both aforesaid, credible evidence suggests that levels of Sir2 and the activation of AMPK would be further increased via supplementation of another important nutrient, R-Alpha Lipoic.

High (concentrated) fructose is found in many candy bars and soft drinks. Data from 1909 to 1997 relating to nutritional consumption of concentrated fructose (corn syrup) was examined and a significant correlation was found between concentrated fructose and metabolic disturbances (dyslipidemia), suggesting that high dietary intake of fructose is an important causative factor in the development of the metabolic syndrome. (1)

This recent study examined the effects of Metabolic Syndrome (high-fructose die) and brain energy homeostasis, taking into account a diet deficient Omega-3, as a potential causative factor. According to this study, when animal were fed Omega-3 there was an increase in an important biological molecule and a biological process. Those being Sir2, a highly investigated protein (proposed to prolong cellular longevity) and the activation of AMPK, a process that plays a key and fundamental role in cellular energy homeostasis and a target of many anti-diabetic agents.

While these findings expand the beneficial properties of Omega-3, Nutri-Med Logic Corp adds that the relationship between another important nutrient, R-Alpha Lipoic (Lipoic Acid) and SIRT-1, mammaline equivalent of SIRT2, was recently discovered by the University of Navarra, Pamplona, Spain, investigation cellular energy (mitochondria) in fatty liver disease. Obesity (Silver Spring). 2012 Feb 13.

The study by the University of Navarra found that Lipoic Acid stimulated SIRT-1 and increased the production of a potent anti-oxidant, ManSOD, by 60.6%.

ManSOD adjusts and/or maintains the proper level of free radical as well as offering metabolic homeostatic poise. (2)

Additionally, overwhelming number of studies have suggested (PubMed, Keyword: Lipoic Acid AMPK; most recent Diabetologia. 2012 Mar 30) that Alpha Lipoic Acid induces an improvement of insulin sensitivity through activation of AMPK, as well as reducing triglyceride accumulation in skeletal muscle.

In conclusion, Nutri-Med Logic Corp, agreeing with this recent study, adds that while dietary intervention of Omega-3 offers valuable health benefits in brain energy homeostasis and metabolic syndrome, credible evidence suggests addition of R-Alpha Lipoic would amplify the results.

Four Steps to Feeling Alive After 55: Dr. Daniel Thomas, Expert in Metabolic and Nutritional Medicine Outlines What Makes People Feel Like They Are 30 Again (amazon) (shopzilla)

Lake Mary, FL (PRWEB) June 06, 2013

As many researchers and scientists strive to find cures for common age-related diseases such as Alzheimer’s, cancer, and heart disease, many people in their 50s and 60s who are relatively healthy can still feel weak and tired. Now, there is a new four-pronged approach from Dr. Daniel Thomas, a Lake Mary, Florida physician who specializes in metabolic and nutritional medicine. This new program is designed to help people feel energetic and youthful regardless of age. All of this is done sans synthetic pharmaceuticals and invasive procedures.

Metabolic and Nutritional Medicine is an important field that focuses on the prevention and treatment of age-related decline. It is well supported by peer-reviewed medical and scientific journals, and utilizes individualized, evidence-based protocols that address the very source of the problem in individual patients.

The traditional medical view of aging is one that expects you to eventually suffer from inevitable complications and a steady decline in energy and quality of life. The truth is nobody wants to get or feel old. says Dr. Thomas. After studying metabolic and nutrition for many years, Ive helped my patients regain their strength, vitality and return their bodies to a more optimal state.

Metabolic and Nutritional Medicine combats the key underlying causes of disease and premature aging including hormone deficiency, oxidative stress, chronic inflammation, cellular membrane degradation, insulin resistance, and also promotes the bodys mechanisms of self-repair by stimulating the production of stem cells.

Dr. Thomas four-pronged approach includes the following:

      Natural Hormone Therapy
      Detoxification
      Correcting Nutritional Deficiencies
      Lifestyle Modification

I am grateful to Dr. Thomas who helped me to feel young again. I recommend (the program) for men and women who want to feel stronger, healthier and younger. It sure works wonders for my well-being, said Diana D., a patient of Dr. Thomas.

      1. Prescription Natural (Non-Synthetic) Hormone Therapy: Around age 40, many people begin to lose the ability to produce sufficient levels of hormones, until it reaches a point where it is difficult to keep up with the demands of daily living. The quality of life once took for granted, slowly slips away. Millions of men and women are living with sub-optimal hormone levels and do not even realize it. Restoring hormones to healthy physiologic levels is one of the safest and most effective ways to protect the body and brain as one ages.

      2. Detoxification: The fact is, says Dr. Thomas, “we live in a toxic world and our bodies are under constant attack from disease-promoting free radicals. Reducing the burden of these harmful substances is crucial in order to keep your body young and healthy. Our program provides targeted support to enhance the function of the liver in two phases.”

      3. Correcting Nutritional Deficiencies: One of the most important things people to enhance overall health is to maintain a healthy diet. The notion that food can be the answer to many ills is not new it goes back thousands of years. However, studies have shown that many of fruits and vegetables are relatively low in essential phytochemicalsnatural compounds with the potential to reduce the risk of major diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, and dementia. The program teaches patients how to eat in order to bring back necessary phytochemicals, and learn which vitamin supplements can truly increase your health and longevity so that people do not waste time or money on vitamins or supplements that do not work or may do harm.

      4. Lifestyle Modification: “Engaging in regular physical activity is one of the most important things one can do for your health,” says Dr. Thomas. “Our program includes a personalized fitness plan that takes half the time and offers twice the results. Our program also includes restoring sound sleep and effectively reducing stress, both of which may be more important that diet and exercise for health and longevity.”

Ironically, Americans have gotten so used to seeing unhealthy people, they think its normal. We need to understand that the normal state of humans is not being sick, not taking countless medications, and not visiting the doctors office on a frequent basis, says Dr. Thomas.
