A New Study Suggests Certain Nutrients May Offer a Healthy Intervention In Premature Aging of Lungs (amazon) (shopzilla)

(PRWEB) January 22, 2012

A recently published study opens the discussion of the importance of nutrients as a therapeutic vehicle in lung diseases, such as COPD and Emphysema. Expanding on this study, Nutri-Med Logic Corp states that, while polyphenols in this new study are correctly suggested to retain potent anti-oxidant properties, capable of activating certain genes associated with aging, R-alpha Lipoic, an endogenous anti-oxidant, also retains similar suggested potent anti-oxidant properties, capable of interfering with premature cellular aging.

According to American Society for Clinical Nutrition (Proceedings of The International Conference on Polyphenols and Health), polyphenols are antioxidants, and since 1995 they have received more reviews and interest from nutritionists than antioxidant vitamins, carotenoids or minerals. (1)

In 2010, the Department of Environmental Medicine’s Lung Biology and Disease Program, University of Rochester Medical Center, Rochester, NY, proposed that polyhenols, aside from having anti-oxidant properties, also, possess the potential ability to regulate metabolism, stress resistance, cellular survival, and cellular aging. (2)

In this recent study, University of Rochester Medical Center, states that COPD is, also, inflammaging (inflammatory disease associated with aging) and, further, since polyphenols possess the potential ability to regulate inflammation, due to their anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory nature, promote cellular resistance to premature death via activating Sirt-1 (a gene associated with regulation of cellular aging), polyphenols offer promising therapeutic intervention for lung health.

Notable polyphenols are resveratrol, curcumin and catechins, found in red wine, turmeric and green-tea, respectively.

Not only the University of Rochester Medical Center but also many other equally prestigious institutes have suggested the potential benefits from nutrients such as polyphenols, due to their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-premature cellular aging potentials.

One other equally important nutrient is R-Alpha Lipoic, which has anti-oxidant properties that could surpass polyphenols, due to its hydrophilic and lipophilic ability (water and fat soluble), as well as its potential ability to neutralize free radicals in mitochondria (cellular energy plant).

Alpha Lipoic was used by Dr. Burton Burkson, The FDA principal investigator of Lipoic Acid for last 23 years, in the treatment of a patient with pancreatic cancer and liver metastases. Dr. Burkson credits Lipoic Acid for its ability to moderate NF-kB, a master switch of inflammation. As a parallel comparison, the recent study also suggests moderation of NF-kB by polyphenols.

Additionally the anti-aging properties of R-Alpha Lipoic acid was a component of supplements that got the attention of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Division of Cancer Biology (DCB) as a popular combination of anti-aging and vitality formula, as reported by National Toxicology program, National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences.

It has been suggested that dietary supplementation of R-Alpha Lipoic Acid (also known as R- Lipoic Acid), increases the production, as well as the cellular concentration, of glutathione, which decrease by age. Glutathione is perhaps the most potent internal anti-oxidant and its decline shifts the body toward oxidative stress and its inevitable consequences of cellular aging.

In Conclusion, Nutri-Med Logic Corp agrees with this recent study regarding the benefits of polyphenols. However, Nutri-Med Logic Corp adds that R-Alpha Lipoic is equally important as an endogenous anti-oxidant, and a vital co-enzyme in the production of energy, which a plethora of studies have suggested. Also, it is valuable for its multi-faceted benefits.

Health Food Emporium Says: Omega 3 Fatty Acids Are Among the Top Nutrients to Keep You Healthy (amazon) (shopzilla)

    (PRWEB) March 28, 2013

Too many people see a drug on TV or go to their doctor for routine care and come away with a prescription for something that they may or may not need. A recent study showed that the average American aged 19 to 64 now takes nearly 12 prescription drugs! We need to learn to just say, No. Im sorry, but I am not going to take that drug without investigating the side effects and evaluating for myself if that is what I want to do. The first step toward taking charge of your health is to eat right and exercise. Then you need to optimize the nutrients that have been proven to help keep you healthy, says Ms Bowman.

According to a recent study by Britain’s Institute of Human Nutrition and School of Medicine, Omega 3 fatty acids from fatty fish increase the activity of phagocytes, which are cells that fight the flu by eating up bacteria. Omega 3 fish oils also contain selenium and vitamin D, which also help to protect us from viruses. Other research shows that Omega 3s increase airflow and protect your lungs from respiratory infections.

What else helps to combat colds and flus? Ms Bowman says, There are many old favorites and some that are just being investigated. It is very important to do everything we can to keep our immune systems up. That includes helping ourselves to avoid the flu, but it also means lowering our overall inflammation levels, and our cardiovascular and cancer risks. It is up to each of us to do what we can to stay healthy, because this earth is not a generally healthy place to live with; increased environmental toxins, lower nutrition in our processed foods, and radically higher overall stress levels!

Yogurt or Kefir: In an article by Pure Matters, an online magazine, Shift workers who consumed a drink containing Lactobacillus reuteri, a probiotic that appears to stimulate infection-fighting white blood cells, were 33 percent less likely to take sick days than those who took a placebo, according to an 80-day Swedish study published in Environmental Health.

Zinc: According to Rodale Press in a recent article, 30 mg taken at the very start of a cold will shorten it by about half a day, says David L. Katz, MD, MPH, director of the Yale University Prevention Research Center.

Black Tea: According to a Harvard Study, Drinking five cups a day for two weeks can turn your immune system’s T cells into “Hulk cells” that produce 10 times more interferon, a protein that battles cold and flu infections.

Mushrooms: According to Paul Stamets from Fungi Perfecti, The immune system is activated multifactorially by many components in mushrooms. Beta-glucans are just one. Other constituents include but are not limited to alpha-glucans, ergothioneines, antioxidants, anti-inflammatory sterols, lipids, glycosides, and mycoflavonoidsmany of which work synergistically to optimize health.

Garlic: According to Dr Mercola, Garlic is a potent antimicrobial that kills bacteria, viruses and fungi. Ideally this should be in fresh form, eaten raw and crushed with a spoon just before eating.

Vitamin D: Scientists have proposed that low levels of vitamin D may predispose individuals to succumbing to potentially dangerous respiratory infections.

Astragalus: This Chinese root is shown to stimulate the white blood cells that fight infection, says Prevention advisor Andrew Weil, MD. A study published in 2007 found that astragalus appears to boost immunity in mice. And a pilot study suggests that the herb may have similar effects in people.

Other things to remember: Wash your hands frequently. Eat as many organic foods as you can. You should include grass-fed organic milk, and organic eggs and locally grown organic fruits and vegetables. Use coconut oil when you are cooking. Drink plenty of fresh, pure non-chlorinated water. And, when you feel a cold coming on, eat plenty of fresh, home made chicken soup. Yes, it really does work! Chicken contains a natural amino acid called cysteine, which can thin the mucus in your lungs and make it less sticky so you can expel it more easily. (But home made is way better than canned!)

Cardiovascular disease is the #1 killer of both men and women in the United States today, but that doesnt have to be the case, says HealthyAnswers.com. In one of their recent health alerts, HealthyAnswers.com explained the key to keeping a healthy heart is to include the best heart nutrients in the diet several times a week.

HealthyAnswers.com resident medical expert, Mark Rosenberg, M.D., explains, A variety of specific nutrients have different jobs that keep the heart healthy. These nutrients can come from whole foods or from extracts in supplement form. These nutrients include powerhouses like: Omega-3 and ALA essential fatty acids which perform the vital function of cooling inflammation throughout the body. Heart researchers have recently found that inflammation is one of the biggest factors that create the risky arterial plaques of cardiovascular disease.

Another supernutrient group are the B vitamins, particularly folic acid, B12 and niacin. B12 and folic acid help decrease dangerous homocysteine that can form blood clots; niacin helps reduce bad LDL cholesterol.

Antioxidants particularly vitamins C, E help fight free radicals that can damage cellular DNA. Co-Q10 is another that helps energize the mitochondria power centers of your cells to keep them functioning at a healthy level.
