A new study by the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, suggests that supplementation of Omega-3 fatty acids has resulted in a protective application against a particular toxin, commonly associated with age-related retina functional losses. Since retina has the highest concentration of DHA Omega-3 fatty acids, many studies such as the University of Alberta study have sought to evaluate if its dietary intervention could improve or delay the onset and/or the progression of retina diseases.

Last but not least, according to the Department of Opthalmology, Ottawa Hospital Eye Institute, University of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, their meta-analysis of eligible studies between 1995 and 2004 indicates trends in improvement of some retinitis pigmentosa outcomes with omega-3 fatty acids in higher quality studies.
